New as a library user

Welcome to us!

Hello and welcome to the library! With us you will find physical and digital books and journals, newspapers and other resources. We also have reading and work spaces that are suitable for both self-study and group work. You are welcome to talk and eat here, as long as you show consideration for others and clean up after yourself. In addition to loans, we also offer courses and guidance in source referencing, searching and assignment writing.

How to borrow books?

As a student at NLA University College, you can borrow books and other resources from us. The library is staffed between 09:00-15:00, so this is a good time to drop by if you have any questions. You are also welcome to use the library outside of staffed opening hours, and you will find both search PCs and a lending machine here. The student ID app and your physical student card can be used as a library card on the machine.

If you would like to borrow literature that we do not have available in our collection, we can borrow it for you from other libraries. This is free of charge for you as a student. Please contact us if you would like this.

Loan policies

Search for literature

Oria (link to further information) is the database where you can search for the literature you are looking for. Here you will find information about which shelves the physical books are on, and access to our electronic resources such as journal articles, journals, student papers, etc.

If you are outside campus, you must use eduVPN (link to further information) to access our electronic resources.

If the material you are looking for is out on loan, you can put yourself on a waiting list. You will then be notified by e-mail and SMS as soon as the desired material is available and can be picked up at the library.

If what you want to borrow is available on the shelf in the library, you can find it yourself and borrow it either at the machine or at the counter. Ask us if you need help finding your way around, we are happy to help.

Curriculum and academic literature

As a student, you are responsible for obtaining curriculum literature, and the library is a supplement to this. We usually have two copies of textbooks in addition to one day loan copy for loan at the library. The loan period for textbooks is 2 weeks, and other books have a 4 week loan period.

Leganto

The curriculum lists in Leganto are linked to Oria, so you can check directly whether the book is available from us.

Print and copy

Outside the library there is a printer that you can use for printing, copying and scanning. You log in with your student card, and the first time you use the printer, you must activate the card with a code from SafeQ (link to further information). Read more about printing here (link to further information).

Help with source usage and referencing

When writing academic papers, you must remember to exercise source criticism and refer to the sources you use. You are responsible for all source usage in your text. We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the online resources Kildekompasset and Søk og Skriv. We offer courses in Apa 7, searching and EndNote and you can find an overview of the semester's courses on information screens, notices at the library and the library's website. You can also contact us at the counter with questions, or book individual guidance with one of the librarians.
